New spread is ready! See you later, Blue Journal

stitch book

Hey guys, I hope you didn't forget me yet :D

It's a shock that it's been a month since the last post on the blog!

In the meantime, I gradually finished the new spread in the Blue Journal, and for now, it's going to be the last one!

I'm not saying goodbye to this Journal, it's a temporary parting. The last spread was very difficult to finish, the struggle was a bit too much. Which is funny considering I've had this lace sampler in my mind for a long time...

I'm still not sure what caused this kind of mental barrier regarding this last spread. The only thing I know is that I desperately miss stitching with some other colors :D

It's a pity that so many ideas have to be put on hold, but one of my strong convictions is that if there's some inner opposition when you're working on a project, that maybe it's better to put it away. Maybe a break is needed, maybe your inspiration ran out, maybe you're in the right condition for something else. Who knows? In any case, if something is draining you out, put it on shelf :)

I harbour lots of sweet emotions to this journal, and there are still plenty ideas on my mind that I'm looking forward to fullfilling. I would like to keep enjoying working on it in the future, which means letting it rest for a while!

So here goes a little gallery:

You know, if I were to reflect on this spread a little....

The page on the right was made when I was feeling very low, it were days of crying and anxiety. It was wipped literally in a day or day and a half, while I poured my frustrations in it.

I felt relieved immediately after completing that page – this is what art journals are for, after all. Expressing your emotions and feelings on a chosen medium. Letting it go. Setting yourself free.

It worked!

But... I feel like because of the specifics of embroidery, which takes a longer time to finish, this page was weighing me down while I was working on the left one. After immediate relief inside of me, the page itself started feeling heavy.

It didn't happen before, even though there are some other melancholic words and phrases in that journal. (What's with the mood?? :D) Maybe that was because the last page was made after a breakdown, while others were just short-lived mood shifts. Or something.

In any case, thank you for sticking with me so far!

I'm not sure how active I will be this month, due to the holiday season. Wishing you lots of happy moments with your loved ones, stay healthy (and indoors if possible), take care of yourselves! Let's stitch the next year with more colors!

  5. Your work is beautiful and I can see that a lot of time and effort has gone into these two wonderful pages. I completely agree with you on the feeling of not being 'comfortable or enjoying' a piece of work, it is best to leave it - when the time is right to return to it the work done will be much more enjoyable. Take care of yourself dear Amina.

    1. Thank you, Ann! I really appreciate. It's always tough for me to set an unfinished project aside, but a break is better than forcing yourself :D Hopefully, I will return to it with new powers and ideas!
