Unexpected news :(
Is it just me, or August has been one of the most hectic months lately? Ah, it's a little funny actually.
I swear when I was talking about taking a break from making new designs, I didn't mean closing the shop – this news came out of the blue for me as well.
There is a certain technical problem that doesn't have a solution unless I reach Etsy technical support, which is currently unavailable.
Long story short...
When I was opening my shop at Etsy in 2015, I was very certain that I would be staying permanently in a different country. So when I registered, I stated that country as my residence. During that time the shop didn't take off, and I didn't treat it seriously yet.
Later the plans changed, and I've been staying at home in Russia permanently for a long time. In 2017 I re-started the Etsy shop, taking it seriously from there and trying to add new designs consistently.
However, you can't change the country of your residence that you first stated upon registering. I've stated Russia in my shipping address, in my bank info, in my “region of preference”, but, apparently, none of that counts.
So recently I got a “happy mail”, telling me that I have to enroll into “Etsy payments” system (which means that a seller can accept payments through credit cards) because that country that I stated first finally joined it.
And if I don't enroll, I won't be able to make sales. The shop's activity will be ceased.
So... As you might guess, it's been a long time since I last visited that other country, and I have no account in any bank there. Which means, that I can't enroll in 'Etsy payments”.
And there is also no way to change my country of residence in the settings. Only technical support staff can help.
But it is impossible to reach them. You can check this page, there is literally no way to contact them and they are also notorious for taking forever to reply even if you find a way to reach them.
Dead end :D
That's why in the middle of September I will be closing the shop myself.
This is an unexpected turn of events but I'm not really sad... if one door closes, another one opens :)
I know one thing though... Frankly speaking, I'm not particularly enthusiastic about starting a whole new account and a whole new shop on Etsy from scratch, again, with the very same designs...
Not feeling this at all, haha.
So before the shop closes, if you like any of the designs, this might be your last chance to get them :)
And as for selling new designs in the future... We will see. Right now I'm focused on preparing the embroidery journal course, everything else will have to wait :)
P.S. Sorry that this month I'm not very active on the blog. I work quite a lot behind the scenes. Hopefully, when current projects are finally finished, this place will get livelier again. I'm just really not good at multitasking :D
Good luck in future adventures.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lizzie!

ReplyDeleteThank you for sticking with me, Marvey! Let's keep enjoying stitching together :) ❤

ReplyDeleteYes, inshallah nothing happens to the blog!!! LOL
DeleteI really appreciate your positive attitude! Your talent will make a way and I'm sure the break will turn out to be a silver lining. So many silver linings have become evident for me during this 'season'.
ReplyDeleteFor sure, there are always many doors open :) ❤
DeleteHi! I just recently found your blog, and I'm so inspired!! Your work is lovely, and I've gotten into a bit of an embroidery phase :) thank you so much for sharing your beautiful projects and for creating such clear, helpful tutorials!
ReplyDeleteThank you for liking my blog, Emma! Hope you enjoy embroidery :)
DeleteHi! I recently purchased a pattern from your shop and was sad to see that the shop would be closing. After a quick Google search, I came upon this blog. As an Etsy shop owner, I know how frustrating reaching out to Etsy can be. If you go to this link that says "email us" and you click it, it should take you to a contact form.

I would stress that you are considering leaving the selling platform altogether in your message to them since that seems to get them to act. Additionally, since it can be hard to find the tickets after they've been submitted, I would bookmark the page it takes you to after you've done so.
All the best, hope this is somewhat helpful. :)
Thank you, Mariya! I will keep this link in mind. Although I will still have to close the shop at least for a while because I might change my location again this year. It wouldn't make sense to fix the locaton right now to fix it again soon after that, if you know what I mean. Thank you, nonetheless!
DeleteHi Amina,
ReplyDeleteAdministrative things take always so long... Hope sincerely you could reopen it and it won't affect to your creativity at all as you also have your awesome blog and instagram :)
We'll keep in touch, all the best
I will not delete it for now, only close. We will see :)
DeleteYou're right, I will focus on the blog, while hopefully, improving my skills!
Oh, very sad story to read, but all the best for your future, as you rightly said, when one door closes, another opens!
ReplyDeleteYou can try to sell from amazon
Thank you, Gouri :)
