Have you ever tried ribbon embroidery? Would you like to? Actually, it is the first type of embroidery that I started with and then drifted off to hand embroidery with thread.
So, the thing is, I have a white silk scarf (it was used as a prop here) which I'm not going to wear anymore because it is old and got some yellow spots here and there. And I decided that I might try using it for silk ribbon embroidery :)
This craft is friendly to coloring ribbons and strips of silk fabric so all the unnecessary spots will be hidden behind the paint. Ah, I'm already seeing how beautiful the silk stripes will be once they are colored...
A few years ago I already tried ribbon embroidery. Or, more like, it was what brought me to the world of hand embroidery. The problem is that I've given away most of my works as presents to friends and relatives and stayed only with the two for me and my family.
That's why I can't show that much. But these works were among the last ones (in addition to the Marigold botanical project where ribbons were used as well), so they pretty much show my latest stage of progress at this craft :)
It will be really refreshing to use the flowy silk as a material for ribbon embroidery...
Previously I tried it only with satin ribbons and “half-silk” ribbons, as what the seller called them. And I actually liked the satin ones more, they were easier to work with. But I've never tried using actual silk so it will be the first time.
The reason for this mini throwback is that I wonder how many of you tried ribbon embroidery or would be interested in some lessons?
This craft is really not hard. Finding materials might be the biggest issue, and I don't mean the ribbons here, but rather suitable needles and ground fabric. Well, all in all, there are few things different and special about ribbon embroidery, and that would require some more time and space to explain, haha.
